Volunteer with us

Why volunteer?

Embarking on a volunteering journey with Scouting unlocks a world of adventures, fulfillment, and countless positive experiences.

Whether it's organizing thrilling outdoor activities, teaching valuable life skills, or mentoring young minds, you'll play a pivotal role in the lives of our young people and make life long friendships.

No matter if you're able to contribute a small fraction of your time or fully immerse yourself, we have tailored opportunities that perfectly align with your skills and availability.

Section support

We currently have cubs, scouts and explorer sections and are always looking for extra support with running and planning sessions.

We're also on the look out for anyone willing to run a beaver colony or a squirrel drey as we currently don't have enough leaders to open these sections.

All our sections meet on Thursday evenings. In winter we run from the ACF hut in Penryn and during summer we run from the Water sports centre in Falmouth.

Winter timings:

Cubs 18:00 - 19:30

Scouts and explorers: 19:30 - 21:00

Summer timings:

All sections 18:00 - 21:00 (times can vary with land activities)

Skills support

Have a skill you would love to share but can't commit to regular meetings?

That's okay we would still love to hear from you!

There are over 200 scouting badges and in order to achieve a varied programme we're always on the look out for people who can offer new opportunities for our young people.

If you think you can offer a skill or already know a badge you can help us with get in touch and we can discuss how we can make the most of your offer and give you a great 6th experience.

Behind the scenes

Running a scout group takes more than just the leaders. At 6th we have an incredible exec team that helps the group run smoothly. This includes our chair, treasurer, secretary, quartermaster and trustees.

There are countless ways you could help behind the scenes and any way you're willing to help out will be greatly appreciated.

In particular, we are currently on the lookout for anyone who can help us with our boat maintenance, mostly during the winter when they're not being used.

We are also in need of experienced gardeners or builders to help us renovate a plot of land near the hut so it can be used by our group.

If you would like to help us with any of these jobs or any other behind-the-scenes roles let us know and we will find the perfect role to suit your skills and availability.

Students

At 6th Falmouth we are lucky enough to be positioned close by to Falmouth University, Exeter University (Cornwall campus) and Falmouth marine school.

We know there are lots of students who loved scouting before university and would love to keep volunteering but worry about fitting the commitment around studies.

Here at 6th we're happy for you to commit to any amount of time you can give and we understand that certain times of the year can be quite hectic in the university schedule as well as extended times when you might go home or travelling.

If you want to continue your scouting journey and make some new friends we'd love to have you!
